BUYER BEWARE!! Posted on 12 Oct 13:19
So you think you’re about to score a bargain on eBay and grab some LED driving lights at an ultra-cheap price. But before you press the BUY button, ask yourself this….if you were on holiday in an Asian country, and saw a Rolex watch at the markets, would you buy that and believe you have a genuine, top quality item? The same applies here. Although it is possible to buy a product that may look the same, and have the same description, in reality, it is not possible to manufacture a top quality product at these prices. So if quality, ultimate light efficiency, longevity and back up warranty and service is what you are seeking from your driving lights, then you need to pass on budget buys.
SOME QUESTIONS YOU NEED TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU PURCHASE:
The manufacture of a good quality driving light includes many different variables. They will have a good solid housing, good quality Cree LED’s with a high binning rate (see our other blog), good quality lens, high water and dust proof rating, a good solid Australian Warranty, and last but not least, pre and after sales service with an Australian phone number.
1. I WANT TO MAKE SURE MY PRODUCT HAS A SOLID WARRANTY?
If you buy a product from China, you can pretty much kiss any warranty goodbye. The steps you need to go through, the time and cost it takes to return it, really doesn’t make it worthwhile. Zombie have a 2 year Warranty within Australia.
2. I INTEND TO BUY FROM AN AUSTRALIAN SUPPLIER, SO WHAT ARE THE THINGS I NEED TO LOOK FOR?
When buying from an Australian supplier, firstly work out if they are they just a go between for a Chinese manufacturer, pumping out 1000’s of the same item, or are they selling a product that they have researched, had input into, and that they can properly stand behind? At Zombie, we have worked with a manufacturer to make sure our products have been manufactured to our required specifications, to ensure they would stand up to the harsh Australian conditions, as well as emitting extreme light. The harness was designed by our own Auto Electrician, who specializes in heavy vehicles and machinery, and is extra-long to suit most vehicles.
3. WHAT IF I NEED HELP BEFORE OR AFTER MY PURCHASE, OR WHEN I GO TO INSTALL MY LIGHTS?
Do they provide a phone number so you can call them if you have problem with the product or fitment, or simply want to discuss what may suit you needs? What if you buy a cheap driving light, but can’t work out the instructions for fitment, so then have to pay someone to fit it? It doesn’t work out so cheap then. Zombie supply a simple to use, set of instructions including a simple diagram. If you still find you have a problem with fitment, then we are at the end of the phone to guide you through.
4. HOW DO I KNOW IF THE HARNESS THAT I AM BUYING WITH THE LIGHTS, WILL MEET AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS AND DO THE JOB PROPERLY?
Is the harness they supply constructed with the proper gauge wire and fuses etc? You will only know this if you pull it apart. If not, you are in for major problems. Zombie’s resident Auto Electrician, who has designed the harness, believes “overkill” is the best way to go. The harness is made from wiring and parts that are more than what is required to run the lights.
5. I KNOW THAT I AM BUYING MY PRODUCT ONLINE, BUT I STILL WANT THE SECURITY OF BEING ABLE TO CONTACT THE SUPPLIER AT ANY TIME AFTER MY PURCHASE:
Do you want the security of pre and after sales 24/7 service, from a qualified Auto Electrician at the end of the phone? Zombie Lights offer this.
6. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE I PURCHASE?
Just remember, before you press the BUY button, make sure you have ticked off all the questions above and ask yourself what it really is that you want from your driving lights.
